Bad news from the morning skate here: J.T. Compher, the hero of Friday night's overtime win over Toronto, will miss tonight's New Year's Eve tilt with the New York Islanders with an upper-body injury.

Compher will also miss the rest of the Avs' games this coming week against Winnipeg, Columbus and Minnesota. With the Avs having most of next week off (bye week), the earliest Compher will return is Jan. 13 in Dallas.

Compher, who missed time with a broken thumb already this season, took a hit in the third period against Toronto, Jared Bednar said, but he played on. He was still good enough to bury the winner in OT and didn't seem hurt at all when I talked with him after the game.
