John Elway isn’t familiar with losing. In his 16 seasons as a player, he personally recorded a losing record just twice. In his seven years leading the front office of the Denver Broncos, the 5-11 record of the 2017 team was the first and only losing season he’s had.
Because of this, there’s a growing belief—from the furthest stretches of Broncos Country, all the way to inside the locker room—that major changes are on there way in terms of what players will still be on the team next season.
It’s also widely believed that Elway and Co. will try to make a big splash in free agency at the quarterback position, which would require the team to free up money. With the salary cap for 2018 not yet officially set, as the roster currently stands, it is expected Denver will have just over $26 million to work with in cap space.
These seven players below, however, represent not only players that can be cut, but ones that would free up plenty of money for the Broncos to make significant moves in the offseason.
NOTE: All of these numbers are based on a pre-June 1 release, as that’s when the team would need to make the move to free up cap space for free agents. Numbers are based on Spotrac.
