BSN Avalanche Podcast: Outdoor hockey comes back to Colorado

The BSN Avalanche Podcast rings in the new year as the whole gang gets together at Blake Street Tavern to breakdown Colorado’s 3-2 OT loss to the LA Kings, talk about the Avs’ overtime woes, and share their excitement on the official announcement of the 2020 NHL Stadium Series returning to Colorado.

I mean to me the choice for a non-divisional opponent for the outdoor game is obvious: The Ottawa Senators.

Especially, when that that first-round draft pick they forfeit to the Avs scores the game-winning goal

How about you do Winnipeg then you can have the American Air force vs. the Canadian Air force. Do us a couple special jerseys and have it as a full on weekend of Military appreciation.

If there ever is an NHL game wth the old Colorado Rockies jersies being worn it would be heresy for them to be on the backs of a non-Colorado team, especially the New Jersey f**king Devils.

I think the league will choose Minnesota to play in Dallas on New Year’s Day. The old North Stars against the team from their former state.
This would rule out Minny for our game, thankfully. However, LA would make sense, given the information that you shared today. Not sure if I like that opponent, but we get what we get.
Definitely looking forward to that game, since I live in Colorado Springs. It should be awesome!!!

    Three questions:

    1) You’re a great host, Jesse, but why do you sign off that you “have been” Jesse Montano? Unless you’re Batman and Jesse Montano is your alter ego, I think you’re still you after the show ends. Call me crazy.

    2) This question relates to Dater’s concerns that MacKinnon is upset about his super cheap contract. Why would he blame the Avs (and why should we be worried) since the Avs can’t actually do anything about the contract? Unless I misunderstand the CBA, which I admit is VERY possible, I don’t think teams can renegotiate contracts. Section 11.10 (No Renegotiation) prohibits it except for in very limited exceptions. The team can’t even negotiate an extension until the final year of the contract.

Seeing as the Avs hands are tied, it’s hard to see how MacKinnon could blame the team for his budget deal and what he would expect them to do about it.

    3) What are the odds of getting an actual player on the pod? If not in season, in the off season?

Love the site guys. Keep the coverage coming!

MacKinnon would only have himself to blame if he were mad about his contract, you’re right. That doesn’t mean he still might not be sour to everyone in general about it. I am NOT saying he is or will be. But it’s fair to wonder if it bothers him.

Oh if you want completely random AF ideas. I’d say Vancouver (just cus screw them), or Anaheim but BB has to agree to coach ANA and Roy coaches the Avs.

Oh or you can do Avs vs Calgary on valentines day. We need massive national coverage level revenge for that.

If it can’t be Dallas it should either be NJ for nostalgia, or Nashville for current reasons. Also country folk love the military (lol coming from an Army retired guy who is country AF). If you do NJ you can have an alumni game, if you do Nashville use their AHL teams. Nothing else really makes a ton of sense, and fuck the Mild. Like AJ said, yeah we hate them but we’re also tired of them.
